Christian Lillinger is a drummer, composer, performer, curator, producer, and one of the most prominent contemporary percussionists, and is considered the most innovative percussionist of his generation. He is the founder of the publishing company Plaist, the creator and member of numerous ensembles (Amok Amor, Open Form for Society, Grund), constantly rethinking the role of percussion in contemporary music. His works are published and analyzed in contemporary music publications.
Born in 1984 in Lübeck, Germany, he currently lives and works in Berlin. Ch. Lillinger’s work pushes the boundaries of contemporary improvisational and compositional music through complex rhythmic architectures and innovative ensemble concepts. His artistic practice is characterized by a high degree of structural density, dynamic precision, and a unique approach to sound, form, and collective interaction. Ch. Lillinger creates unique structures of time and texture that blur the boundaries between composition and improvisation.
He studied at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden (2000–2004) and later graduated from the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Theatre in Leipzig. Since 2003, he has lived in Berlin, where he has become one of the leading figures on the European contemporary music scene.
