A soloist, chamber musician, orchestra musician, participant in theater music projects. Laureate of the Latvian Grand Music Award in 2001. Performed with Steve Reich, Jonathan Haas, Ludwig Albert, Emmanuel Séjourné, Pavel Gunter, Marta Klimazar, Frederik Macares, Henrik Larsen and others.
Concertmaster of the percussion group of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (since 1998) and chairman of the board of the LNSO Foundation. LNSO has been playing since 1996. 1992-2013 was an artist of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
A teacher at the Latvian Jāzep Vītola Academy of Music since 1995, currently a docent and head of the percussion class. Since 2016 Jūrmala music high school teacher.
Since 2014, Edgars Saksons has been the artistic director of the Ukmergė International Percussion Festival. Conducts master courses and seminars in Latvia, Lithuania, France, Belgium, Russia, Belarus. Participates in the development and management of the continuing education course “Different learning methods in the vocational guidance and vocational secondary education program “Percussion game”. In the 2000s, E. Sakons participated in the percussion festivals “Perkumania” organized by PAS in Paris.
Worked in the team of organizers of the 2013 and 2018 General Latvian Song Festival vocal symphonic music concert. Regular UFO tours are organized around Europe and Japan. Participated in the organization of the Culture Days of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt (2013).
E. Saksons studied percussion at the Emīlas Dārzinis high school of music and JVLMA, from which he graduated in 1995 with a master’s degree. The most important teachers are Pēteris Šāvės, Vigo Račevskis and in the Netherlands Nik Vouds and Johan Faber.
