Guntars Freibergs has studied percussion in such educational institutions as Conservatory of Strasbourg (France), Royal Conservatory of Brussels (Belgium) and the Anton Bruckner University of Linz (Austria), where he obtained his master’s degree.
Guntars has won various prizes in many international percussion competitions from whom the most notables are Grand – prix in international competition “Days of Percussion” in Fermo (Italy) and 2nd prize in Salzburg
International Marimba competition (Austria). Guntars has a notable solo performance experience with such orchestras as Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga, the Moscow chamber orchestra Musica Viva, South Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, Professional Wind Orchestra Rīga
and the Latvian National Opera Orchestra. He also has been given solo recitals in the most of European countries.
Guntars is a three-time nominee for “The Latvian Grand Music Award”. In 2011 for the brilliant debut of the year, in 2017 together with the colleagues of percussion ensemble Perpetuum Ritmico for the best concert of the year as well as in 2019 for the outstanding performance in ensemble. Today Guntars actively participates in both solo and chamber music projects in Latvia and abroad.
