GUNTARS FREIBERGS

Percussionist Guntars Freibergs is the founder and member of the ensemble Perpetuum ritmico, established in 2014, and a teacher at the Mārupe Music School and the Ventspils Music School. He has given solo performances with several orchestras in Latvia, Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic.

Guntars Freibergs was nominated for Latvia’s Grand Music Award in 2010 as the New Artist of the Year. His percussion ensemble Perpetuum ritmico was nominated for the Grand Music Award in 2016 for the Concert of the Year.

In 2012, he received the second place in the prestigious Marimba Competition in Salzburg, and in 2011 – the Grand prix award in the Percussion Competition in Fermo, Italy.

Guntars Freibergs started his musical journey at Valka Music School and continued in Emīls Dārziņš Music School. He also studied in the Central Music School in Moscow in the class of  Mark Pekarsky; he studied at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg from 2007 to 2011, received his master’s degree from Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz in 2014, and enhanced his skills at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

Guntars has attended workshops with leading percussion experts Keiko Abe, Momoko Kamiya, Bogdan Bacanu, Peter Sadlo, and he has further expanded his musical abilities at the Summer Academy Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Music Academy of Villecroze in France.
