The group was formed in 2013, but has already managed to become a true ambassador of Western Lithuanian jazz. The group represented the port city of Lithuania at international jazz festivals in Kaliningrad, Odessa, Šiauliai, Tauragė, presented impressive programs in Klaipėda, performed with world-famous American performers Jojo Mayer, Vern Spevak, David Katz, Spaniard Francesco Angelo Latino, Ukrainian Anastasia Bukina, Grammy nominee from the USA Nicole Zuraitis, Italian guitarist Allesandro Florio.
The conductor and the leader of the orchestra Kęstutis Sova has become a kind of connection between jazz fans in Central and Western Lithuania. In addition to seaside groups (Klaipėda SKA Foundation, Klaipėda Jazz Orchestra Combo, other big bands), he plays with Kaunas residents in the group “FreeFS”, together with A. Mikalkėnas he initiated and patronizes the Lithuanian Youth Jazz Orchestra, which brought together young talents from all over the country – even its most remote corners. In 2020, this group became the laureate of the “Vilnius Jazz Young Power” competition.
Among other things, since Perm, K. Sova has been teaching saxophone specialization and jazz ensemble disciplines at the Klaipėda Faculty of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. In 2017, for his merits to jazz in the port city, the artist was awarded the “Jazz Star” award established by the Klaipėda Castle Jazz Festival.
At the festival, the orchestra will present a program dedicated to one of the most prominent jazz drummers of all time – Buddy Rich.
